Computed with skyfield against the JPL DE440s ephemeris kernel. Rise/set/transit times use skyfield's own almanac search functions; magnitude uses skyfield's standard planetary-magnitude models. 'Altitude' is the highest point each planet reaches during tonight's dark hours specifically (sunset to sunrise) — not necessarily the same instant as its daily meridian transit, which can fall during daylight.
What counts as 'visible tonight'?
A planet is marked visible if it rises above Port Louis's horizon at any point between tonight's sunset and tomorrow's sunrise. It doesn't account for cloud cover, light pollution, or how close the planet sits to the Sun in the sky (which can make an astronomically 'visible' planet hard to actually pick out near the horizon at dusk or dawn).
Is this for the whole island?
This page computes for one canonical observer, Port Louis on the main island (docs/adr/0028) — every sky event here is visible island-wide within seconds, so this single computation applies everywhere on the main island. Rodrigues differs enough in longitude to warrant its own page, not yet built.
